Freelance 3d animation & architectural visualisation artist Neil B SmithMy name is Neil Smith and I’m 41 years of age. My main passion is for 3d animation and architectural visualisation, but I’m also skilled in video editing and website development.

Happily¬†married for 13 years and with two young boys, I have been living in Great Cornard near Sudbury on the Suffolk Essex border all of my life. If you are wondering where Sudbury is, well it’s about 15 miles north of Colchester (Essex), 19 miles west of Ipswich (Suffolk) and¬†16 miles south of Bury St Edmunds (Suffolk).

My career started in the Construction industry within the field of architecture. For the first 3 years of my career I worked for AMEC Construction in Ipswich (Suffolk) as a site engineer, based on the University of Essex (UofE) site in Colchester (Essex). My tasks included setting out new accommodation blocks from architects plans and illustrations, to checking the progression of work across the construction site. I then switched jobs to work as a CAD technician at Scott-White & Hookins in Ipswich (Suffolk), fulfilling my desire to work in computer aided architectural design. While working here I created AutoCAD drawings for projects such as Palmer and Harvey (P&H), Cranfield University (Bedfordshire) and RAF Mildenhall (Suffolk), until I decided to take redundancy in January 1998 when the regional office was closed. At this time 3d animation was in it’s infancy, so I took a leap of faith and stepped out becoming a freelance 3d animation artist and NBS Studio began!
